And by this I mean I can literally see the sun when I leave home from work everyday now. ๐Ÿ˜… In that archi firm, itโ€™s commonplace to leave work after the sun setsโ€ฆ Some even stay till 1-2am in the morning. Itโ€™s the culture. I knew I didnโ€™t want that to become my life. Wait, what life? ๐Ÿซฃ

In Uni, I was known to be one of the more driven and go all out kind of person. I was just super passionate about the work that I put out. So it naturally came as a shock to everyone when I broke my scholarship bond. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿคข

โ˜๐Ÿผ First of, can I just say that employees usually quit not because of work per se, but due to bad leaders and bosses – basically, people related. โ˜น๏ธ Pretty common in all workplaces.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Long story short, I was under a very mean and nasty leader.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Imagine getting screamed at when you come back from your marriage leave ๐Ÿ’ฉ

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Imagine hearing (on repeat) that he/she is working 24/7 and not having rest at all in the group chat ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคข Implying that he/she is the only one working hard and picking up after everybody else.

Anyway Iโ€™ll elaborate further in another post on how to identify a toxic workplace. โ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿซ–

Update on 16 Oct: ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผโœจ This is the post!

I can laugh about it now but wow It was truly one of the darkest periods of my life. Broke down a couple of times in front of my mum and husband cus I just couldnโ€™t understand why I worked so hard in school to land myself in such an upsetting situation ๐Ÿ˜ฐ๐Ÿ™„

๐Ÿ˜‚ Well apparently the person left the company that very month when two of us from the team left. Our theory was this person was forced to quit. ๐Ÿ™ƒ A close friend shared that the said person has since joined the โ€˜clientโ€™ side and is out there wrecking havoc + causing distress to the other archi firm ๐Ÿซฃ Ahโ€ฆ same old, no change.

โ€ผ๏ธ Lastly, a word of advice for archi students or if you know any, Just take the general sponsorship bondโ€ฆ It leaves you some leeway to jump to another firm if things go wrong in the first firm.

Eventually, I wasnโ€™t able to revert from direct scholarship to basic sponsorship bond for whatever reasons. ๐Ÿ˜ฃ๐Ÿ˜ข Many told me to fight till the end โ€ฆ My current bosses even helped to write in but to no avail. We all reckoned there may be deeper โ€œpoliticalโ€ implications. ๐Ÿ‘ป The authorities mentioned I could have requested to switch to another team but wouldnโ€™t that be so awkward for everyone? Besides, I was too broken and jaded to even consider that because I knew the culture of the company will NOT change. ๐Ÿ˜•

Eventually, the authorities decided that itโ€™s best they strip the scholarship away from me. ๐Ÿ˜”

I totally lost all respect for them. They didnโ€™t try to even protect their scholarship recipient who had suffered work place mistreatment ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ All I could remember was feeling trapped and threatened over the phone calls I had with the person-in-charge.

Canโ€™t deny that till today Iโ€™m still disappointed with how things turned out. ๐Ÿ˜Œ But I can say that everyone is happy for me that I took the courage to quit. People around me could feel I was ๐Ÿ’ฏ times happier.

Certainly glad I left for greener pastures.

Life is too short to dwell in a place where you donโ€™t feel appreciated, motivated and happy about. Not worth it. ๐Ÿฅน

Oh, and we found out that I actually conceived my baby on the very last week before I left the company ๐Ÿ˜‚ Good vibes only yโ€™all ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜‚ Many said itโ€™s a sign from the universe!!!!! Hahaha

๐Ÿ™„ This entire incident knocked me into reality and made me reconsider my career path. I even stopped logging my log sheets.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ FYI, in order to become an Architect,

    1. We have to first get a mastersโ€™ degree and then log our working experiences for at least 24 months (some even log for 3-5 years to get all the required experiences)

    2. Write a case study report

    3. Sit for an exam

    4. Go for interview

If you pass then you can be a QP or Qualified Person.

Iโ€™m still wondering if itโ€™s worth it ๐Ÿคจ
