    🧘🏻‍♀️ Yoga: An ancient system of practices used to balance the mind and body through exercise, meditation (focusing thoughts), and control of breathing and emotions.

    🧍🏻‍♀️Pilates: Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength.

    Recently visited 📍 Off Duty Pilates located at Palais Renaissance (Orchard) for a reformer class & it honestly wasn’t easy. Being someone who frequents yoga classes, here are thoughts on whether yoga or pilates suits you.

    Yoga 🧘🏻‍♀️

    Practicing yoga consists of breathing, balance, dynamic poses & endurance in certain poses. Flexibility comes in a lot as well.

    Pilates 🧍🏻‍♀️

    Reformer pilates works on a bed-like movable machine with straps & different levels of weight for movement. I’d say the workout here consists a lot more strength to move with the weighted machine. If you’re a first timer, you’ll be surprised at how cool the exercises turn out to be.

    💋 WHY I PREFER YOGA 💋

    I prefer yoga mainly because I get to work a lot on flexibility as well as the capability to hold a dynamic pose. Most of which are not practiced on a reformer. I actually feel more accomplished doing yoga because of the many many types of variations each instructor has for you. Not that pilates doesn’t have variations in exercise but there’s quite a huge difference between these two, & working on a mat works best for me.

    Still, both are really enjoyable & definitely gives you the burn you need.
