Let’s talk about visiting the gynae

The idea of visiting a gynae is probably not very common in Singapore among younger women (unless you’re expecting ofc). However it is actually REALLY important to visit the gynae especially when you have issues when it comes to period health. Visiting the gynae drastically improved mine!

Why I visited the gynae 🚺

Everytime after my period ends, I would experience blood AGAIN just 1 week after (and it was actually quite heavy, as though it was the 2nd day of my period). Initially I thought this was probably nth much and it would go away after a month or 2, but this continued for roughly about 8 months before I finally decided to visit a gynae 🥲 (ikw, I should have def visited one earlier).

When I finally visited one, my gynae did a ultrasound and diagnosed me with uterine polyp (I know, what the hell is that right?!?!?!) She told me this is actl more common in women around 40s so it was actl q shocking to her, but we decided to monitor as it’s not life threatening & see how it goes 😀 A few visits and lots of $$$ spent later, nothing changed & I decided to visit another gynae for a 2nd opinion…

This time round, I asked for a referral from my family doctor and visited a gynae he recommends! She did a new ultrasound for me & told me that there was actl no signs of uterine polyp (I was so confused atm…) Anyway, she recommended oral birth control to regulate my hormones (what’s probably causing the blood in between period)! So far it seems to be working and has drastically improved my period health – I no longer have severe period cramps too 🥲❤️ She also did a Pap smear to check for cervical cancer (was sooo scared, but tbh it was actl q painless and quick!!) – girls, if u’re over 21 (and sexually active) PLEASE get a Pap smear!!

    MORAL OF THE STORY…

If u’re experiencing signs such as severe period cramps, irregular period flow etc.. please see a gynae asap to get it checked!! Though it may be expensive, it’s def worth it!
