There are many different ways for a couple to split the bill – some may go Dutch (split half) and some may take turns to pay for their meals but here’s how my bf and I split the bill / how we pay for stuff in general whenever we go on dates!
Initially when we were just friends / when we just started dating, my bf will always pay for our meals or desserts first and sometimes he will say that I don’t have to pay him back but I’ll still insist and paid him back LOL 😆
Subsequently, I can’t rmb how it started but I think he started to get lazy and lost track of the cost of our meals and desserts so he will just pay for our meals and I will then initiate to pay for the desserts 🙂 and please don’t think that I’m taking my bf for granted or just making him pay cuz I’m the girl LOL but one thing to note is that my bf has a higher spending capacity as he had allowance given to him in Uni previously and is now working full-time so it became an unspoken rule that he will pay for our meals and I’ll pay for our desserts 😌
BUT at times I do treat him (esp during special occasions like his birthdays of course or even when I get my intern paycheck LOL) so yes on a day to day basis, we will usually split our expenses like what I’ve mentioned above, but I will still offer to treat him a good meal from time to time to show how much I appreciate him and not just take him for granted by making him pay for everything 😆
It’s also important to have a savings account and consistently put in small amounts of money in the account on a weekly or monthly basis. You can accumulate the amount and use it for future uses such as investments or even overseas trips expenses (my bf and I used it for our hotels expenses when we went Taiwan and Vietnam!)
As a couple, it is important to align (whether spoken or unspoken rule) on how you should split your expenses and make sure both parties are okay to prevent any misunderstandings or arguments related to 💰!! 😃🫶
