Hi everyone! My name is Ann & this is what goes on the unit selection date:
1. Present your HDB appointment letter for entry (to get a queue number) 🧾
• Your appointment will take around an hour and may be extended if you have more questions for your admin! The waiting time for our turn itself took 15-20 minutes though. Thankful I took a full day leave (thought half day was enough since our appointment was at 9:45am, but we ended around 11:20am).
• It will be helpful to enter the office with ONE unit in mind. Stay updated with your estate’s Telegram channel to see what’s available / ask for help! Ours had an excel sheet tracking taken/available units every night (see Pic 3).
2. Enter the office. Submit your required documents and sign mandatory contracts and forms. ✍️
• The admins at HDB are all very friendly, our admin was patient and walked us through every step/contract and the amounts we had to pay VERY clearly.
• The last form asks if we’d like to opt in for flooring AND/OR sanitary fittings – you can take a short break to view the fittings for your estate. (see pic 2)
3. Opt in or opt out? 😫
Basically, your house will come empty – no floors (only ugly cement streaks), no doors, no toilet bowl & sink.
The only thing you have other than your walls are TOILET & KITCHEN tiles. To see these tiles, go to the MyNiceHome Gallery Showroom. 👍 These CANNOT be hacked because HDB ensures that all the tiles are waterproofed. BUT, you can overlay tiles or laminates.
So, if you want flooring (kitchen, living & bedrooms) – our 4-room costed us $4970/-. The default tiles/vinyl flooring will be on display (see 2nd pic). You can ONLY access these on your UNIT SELECTION DATE. If you’re lucky you can peek from outside another day, but ours was inward facing hahah.
We didn’t opt in for the sanitary fittings (toilet bowls and sinks) & doors, which cost $3k+ because we knew we didn’t want the HDB toilet bowl/basin = $3k+ only for doors.
These fees will be due together with your first downpayment.
4. PAYMENT! 💰
Lastly, you’ll wrap up with paying the $2,000 to confirm the booking of your flat. You’ll receive a large paper envelope containing most of the forms and a VERY CRITICAL floorplan with all the dimensions (not the online one).
