so excited to share this authentic omakase place that my sis found for her bday celebration! this was sushi koike, located at circular road. the exterior didn’t have english signs, so it’s easy to miss! it has an intimate dining experience, with 11 counter seats and a private room of max. 6 pax. we came here on a special occasion and opted for the premium set, here’s what was served to us:

1/ first up was the assorted sashimi platter of oysters, bonito, yellowtail, mackerel and sweet prawns. we were already impressed with how fresh it was! chef also told us which condiment/ sauce would pair well with each item, ponzu sauce, soy sauce, sea salt, wasabi and yellow mustard. we also had sweet corn which was so sweeettt and earthy! the chawanmushi was different from usual, served with fish, peas and dusted with pepper. starter sushis were the squid and shima-aji, both were so fresh and well textured!

2/ then we had deep fried silver beltfish that had a light and crispy batter to it, the meat sooo tender too! thereafter was the shellfish sushi that was chewy and had a nice bite to it. the toro sushi, need I say more… super fatty and melt-in-your-mouth goodness! also had the nigaata prawn sushi, but was a bit too sweet for my liking.

3/ the uni rice with crabmeat was sooo flavoursome and easy to eat! the sea crouch sushi was my personal fav of the night, so soft, oily and just DELICIOUS. the minced negitoro handroll was filled to the brim with the meat, topped with spring onions – was a hefty piece but soooo yummy and satisfying. we also had the scallop sushi and marinated fish that were well delivered but nothing to shout about. at this point, I was getting stuffed so missed out on the following items: uni sushi, tuna sushi and eel sushi 🙁

4/ended the meal with some really sweet grapes, melon and warubi mochi

safe to say that my fam left with our bellies filled and happy! bonus was that the chef and staff were very interactive, and with the space being smaller, it made it easy for conversations and quality time 🥰 the chef is also from tokyo, we were told that he goes back 4 times a year to get ingredients and small trinkets, so you know you’re getting your money’s worth! would 11/10 go back to celebrate happy days and #SavourTheMoment ✨
