I’ve been going to burnt ends for years, and basically have the menu memorised at this point – but is it worth the hype? Honestly, no. Don’t get me wrong, I love the food, the people, the vibes, and will 100% continue to go back again and again. But getting a reservation there is really a mission and some dishes don’t quite hit the mark for the price.

    WHAT I LOVE:

•| Beef Marmalade, House Pickles |•

My absolute favourite dish here, and probably top 10 best bites of food I’ve ever had. No description, just order one whole portion to yourself – this isn’t for sharing ha.

    •| Fennel, Orange, Burrata |•

I order this every single time I’m there, they char the whole fennel directly on the coal. It comes out so sweet and moist, with just the right amount of crunch left to it; it goes perfectly with the smooth burrata and orange oil. The final sprinkling of flaky sea salt makes the entire dish.

    •| Eggplant, Miso |•

Perfectly fried, miso sauce so good you wanna lick the plate after. You can, no judgement from the lovely people here.

    •| Burnt Ends Sanger |•

Probably their most famous dish here, well worth they hype. Brioche bun baked in house is perfect for soaking up the pork and coleslaw juices. Order 1 for the table and they’ll cut it to suit your party size (yes they can also cut it into perfect thirds urghhhhhh)

•| King Crab, Brown Butter, Capers |•

Slightly pricy but you get a lot of crab. You’ll want to drink the sauce, so get some sourdough and make yourself a little open faced crab tartine. The crab meat is super sweet, the sauce is super decadent, but the capers and parsley cut it alittle. Order it you won’t regret it.

•| Onglet, Bone Marrow, Burnt Butter Sauce |•

the steak here is always amazing. The char from the charcoal grill adds a nice smoky flavour. The bits of bone marrow on top adds a super silky rich flavour. And that salad, omg the dressing. Eat everything together for the perfect bite.

    •| Summer Berry Tart |•

Everything about this is perfect. The crust is just the right amount of sweetness, the texture is crisp but buttery, the berries add a tinge of tartness. I could eat the whole tart and still want more.

So all in all, the food at burnt ends is really good, really rich, and you’ll leave feeling like you’ve sinned. I will continue coming back here if I’m lucky enough to keep being able to get reservations.
