Hereโs an idea for you where youโll get to fill your tummies and have a hands-on experience at this ๐ ๐๐จ๐๐๐ซ๐ง ๐๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ ๐ข ๐ฑ ๐ ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฑ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ง๐๐๐ด by the folks at @goldandbeholdco and @j.kpattiserie_ for their Valentines Day Special.
Just upon stepping into the place, we were welcomed by the beautiful pastel aesthetics of Stay Gold Studio and a beautiful glass of moscato rose. The first part of the experience was the ๐ด ๐ญ๐๐๐ ๐ซ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ด prepared by the folks from @j.kpatierie_ in which we were served Avocado Crab Toast, Hokkaido Scallop Angel Hair, Yuzu Tea and Tiramisu.
The ๐๐ฏ๐จ๐๐๐๐จ ๐๐ซ๐๐ ๐๐จ๐๐ฌ๐ญ was refreshing and light on the palate while the ๐๐ฎ๐ณ๐ฎ ๐๐๐ was an amazing palette cleanser. However, what blew me away was the ๐ ๐ฏ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐จ๐๐๐๐ ๐ฏ๐๐๐ ๐ โ Cold spaghetti mixed in fragrant truffle oil and a slightly sweet, slightly tangy yuzu sauce topped with the ๐๐๐จ๐ฉ ๐จ๐๐๐ก๐ก๐ค๐ฅ๐จ ๐โ๐ซ๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ง ๐๐๐. Iโm not a fan of raw food and I always prefer aburi scallops to raw ones but these raw scallops were by far the best Iโve ever had. Props to the chefs Kelysa & Jake for putting in the effort to source for the freshest and tastiest ingredient. The ๐๐ข๐ซ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฎ was nothing to scoff at either, I really love how their bailey infused chocolate crumble brought the dish to the next level. The meal was amazing as it was elegant.
It amazed us to learn that Kelysa serves at an Asian European semi-fine dining place as the head pastry chef, achieving that feat at just age 23, while Jake is trained in modern european cuisine. We consider ourselves blessed to have sampled the dishes of some of the top culinary talent in Singapore. I would like to send my regards to the chefs/power couple to thank them for the wonderful meal.
After the amazing meal we got started on the second part of the experience which was the ๐ ๐ด๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ led by Winnie (founder of Gold&Behold). Modern Kintsugi involves breaking pottery and mending them back together with gold. The end result is pottery more beautiful than before it was broken. Winnie was very patient in guiding us through the steps and the whole process was surprisingly much simpler than we expected. Because of the breaking process, no 2 kintsugi pieces are the same. Our takeaway from this experience was beautiful and unique pottery pieces that Iโll treasure and display at home.
My favourite part of the workshop was Winnieโs sharing on her life story and personal experiences battling mental health difficulties. Her perspectives really brought the meaningfulness and beauty of Kintsugi to light. Winnie and Gold&Behold studios champion ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฒ๐น๐น๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ด through the medium of craft and Kintsugi and their story and message really shines through. There are a number of Modern Kintsugi places in Singapore right now but as the saying goes: โ๐๐ค๐ช ๐๐๐ฃ ๐๐ค๐ฅ๐ฎ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐ง๐๐๐ฉ ๐๐ช๐ฉ ๐ฎ๐ค๐ช ๐๐๐ฃโ๐ฉ ๐๐ค๐ฅ๐ฎ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐จ๐ฉ๐ค๐ง๐ฎ.โ And the story behind Gold&Behold is what makes Modern Kintsugi with them such a wonderful experience.
