Carpentry Planning Tips: Learn from our mistakes

There are so many little details that go into carpentry: measurements, laminates, wood material, door handles, hinges, and the list goes on.

Two mistakes that we made with our carpentry are:

    1) Not choosing the right laminate size.

Laminates usually come in the 8ft x 4ft size but there are some varieties that are larger. For large carpentry, you can easier choose larger laminates that can cover the carpentry or carefully decide how you want your laminates to be joined. We didn't consider this for our master bedroom wardrobe so our carpentry just joined a small piece of laminate at the top.

    2) Not choosing the right hinges.

Instead of the standard cabinet door hinges that open at 110 degrees, did you know you can get hinges that open at 90 degrees or even at 165 degrees? When planning your carpentry, you can think about how you want the cabinet doors to open. For example, we didn't want some of our cabinet doors to swing too much because it will knock against the wall when opened. So we decided to change some of our hinges to 90 degree hinges.
