My absolute favourite hobby I’ve been into since 6-7 years old!

Growing up, my parents put me through multiple lessons to find something I was interested in and after many sports, music, art lessons, I realised I was really into arts & craft, painting, colouring and basically anything that’s colourful!

I attended lessons at the community centre since primary school and met the best art teacher who was the most patient, nurturing and encouraging. That really pushed me to pursue art at O levels.

After O levels, although it wasn’t as intensive anymore, the urge to continue doing art remained and it turned into a hobby I knew I would be pursuing for a longgg time 🤗

I mainly enjoy Watercolour and Acrylic painting, both forms are equally therapeutic which allows me to slow down and thoroughly enjoy the process. Between the 2, I generally do more watercolor painting as the materials are easier to bring around.

I truly believe art has the capability to heal and would love to share how you can kickstart this little hobby ☺️:

    1️⃣ Watercolor Painting

    What You Need:

✔️ Watercolour paper: I always get Daler Rowney’s Watercolour paper from Art Friend in different sizes. To make things more portable, I’ve also invested in

Mossery notebook with Watercolour paper in it so that I could bring it around when I travel.

✔️ Brushes: You need at brushes of at least 3 sizes. I mainly use these 3 brushes: Omni Golden Nylon Size 10, Omni Golden Nylon Size 4 and a micro brush (Daler Rowney E81) for granular detailing

✔️ Paint: It’s a misconception that you need to get a lot of different paint colours. All you need is red, yellow and blue as you’ll be able to mix them in different proportions to get different colours (e.g Green, Purple, Brown, Orange, Black etc) I usually get Winson & Newton 8ml Watercolour as I love how pigmented it is

    2️⃣ Acrylic Painting

    What You Need:

✔️ Cotton Artist Canvas: Art friend has different sizes you can get, I usually get them from a brand called Phoenix

✔️ Brushes: The brushes you use for Watercolour can be the same, but I recommend using rougher brushes with the wooden handles to get better textures when you paint. I get my brushes from the brand Conda which can be found in Art Friend as well

✔️ Acrylic Paint: I usually get my Acrylic paint from the brand Daler Rowney in Black, White, Green, Red, Yellow & Blue

Generally watercolor painting is great if I like to focus on details while acrylic painting is great for more scenic painting where I don’t have to be super detailed. Therefore I usually like to paint food with Watercolour and nature with Acrylic. Picking the correct image is important!

I hope the guide above helps! If you’d like more advice on painting feel free to let me know in the comments below, I’ll be super happy to share and so excited for you to start painting! 🤗🥰🥳
