It’s important for us to provide better alternatives wherever possible. With the launch of Iduna and our latest collection, Willow , we’ve expanded our range of vegan-friendly products by introducing apple leather to our catalogue.
Apple leather is a sustainable alternative to traditional leather, made from the waste by-products of the food industry. In Singapore, Tocco Toscano is the first brand to incorporate and promote apple leather as an eco-friendly material for fashion and accessories.
Benefits of apple leather 🍎
Let’s talk about an arm candy in exchange for a contribution to environmental actions! Apple leather is a bio-based vegan material. As its name suggests, it is made from real apples, primarily leftover pomace and peel from the food industry that would otherwise end up in landfills, incinerated or left to decompose.
Furthermore, due to its high cellulose content, pomace and peel are ideal materials for upcycling into new fabric. This apple waste is mixed with Polyurethane, a binding agent, in order to produce the apple leather that we work with. As a sustainable alternative, apple leather mimics the look and feel of cow leather.
As we’re inching towards a more sustainable future, we hope our efforts are helping to create a more eco-friendly and socially responsible future for fashion. 🫶🏼
